Do you have habits that are taking control of your life?

Do you turn to food, alcohol, nail biting, or cigarettes as a way to cope with uncomfortable feelings?

Some habits can have a significant impact on physical and mental health, as well as on relationships and the overall quality of life. We learn bad habits, and as such, we can unlearn them and replace them with more positive ways of living. You CAN change your habits.

FAQ’S

A: Strategic Psychotherapy is short-term therapy, with an approach on ‘how’ is it that we ‘do’ problems, rather than ‘why’ we do them. Originally developed by Dr Milton Erikson (Psychiatrist) and Jay Haley (Strategic Therapist), it allows the therapist to focus on a person’s strengths to help them achieve their objectives.

“When you change the way you look at things…the things you look at change”

(Dr Wayne Dyer – Motivational Speaker and Author)

Traditional forms of hypnosis may include scripts and a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Some forms of hypnosis take a more directive and commanding approach, and some forms of hypnosis are used for entertainment purposes where a session is set up or staged using volunteers.

At Jenesis, we use a more individualised, personalised, and permissive form of hypnosis based upon the work of Milton Erikson. Your hypnosis session will only relate to you personally and will be created at the time of your session.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of consciousness that people routinely experience on a daily basis. You can be in a hypnotic state when you’re absorbed in work, engrossed in a movie or a book, or even sometimes when you’re driving a car. You remain completely in control. People often describe it as similar to being in a state of deep relaxation with a deep sense of calm, while focusing or not focusing their attention on what is said. Hypnosis is not a state of unconsciousness, because you are in control at all times. Each session takes approximately 20 minutes and is entirely centred around your individual requirements at the time.

Hypnosis is a highly safe and effective method of facilitating change, without side effects or medication. It is not recommended for people with a diagnosed mental illness such as psychosis, schizophrenia, or serious depression. However, for mid to low-level depression, hypnosis can be highly effective.

While we aim to maintain a short-term therapy approach, the number of sessions required will depend on your unique situation. After our first session together, I will be able to let you know approximately how many sessions may be required for you to achieve your desired results. In many cases, 4–6 sessions are the average amount required to achieve excellent results.

“Jen helped me see my situation from a different perspective”

I sought help from Jen after my whole life changed due to an accident, my physical and professional life became under a lot of strain as I could no longer exercise and travel due to my physical restrictions after surgery. It was a difficult time accepting my situation, but
Jen helped me to focus on what I was able to control and the more positive aspects of my situation which really
helped me through. The hypnosis sessions were deeply relaxing and very powerful. She was able to not only calm me, but she helped me see my situation from a different perspective I regained more of my usual motivation, and put the energy into completing my studies.
As difficult as the time was, I gained more acceptance, felt calmer, and a lot more focused on what I could do, and less on what I couldn’t.

“Jen was fantastic and helped me so much.”

We worked together to manage some difficulties that I had around my self-esteem and anxiety, and after 4 sessions I really understood more about the unhelpful things that I was doing to contribute to my own situation which was making things worse. I now see things from a very different perspective, and am back on track, feeling so much more positive, and I’ve found my determination and drive to do things that I have wanted to do for a long time. I’m in a much better place and feeling so much better about myself. I’ve stopped worrying all the time and my family say I’m much better to be around now!
